Annapolis Debates Future of Market House

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - City officials in Annapolis are looking at two possible alternatives for the city-owned Market House. They could take over the operation or sell it.

The city is being sued by the management company that was hired to revive the market. Market House Ventures, a subsidiary of Site Realty, claims it has lost tenants because the city has failed to install a sufficient heating and air conditioning system.

Mayor Ellen Moyer would like to see the city manage the market and possibly operate it as an open market or green grocer.

However, Alderman Sam Shropshire says the city is losing money with the market and should sell it.

The city currently has a 20-year lease with the management company.
